Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Talk Haven Therapy and getting started

What qualifications do you have?

I'm currently completing my BA (Hons) in Counselling & Therapeutic Practice at the University of South Wales, graduating in July. I'm a fully accredited BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) member, committed to ongoing clinical supervision, professional development, and adherence to the BACP Ethical Framework. I hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance to protect your wellbeing and interests.

What is pluralistic counselling?

Pluralistic counselling draws on different therapeutic approaches to match your unique needs. Rather than following one rigid approach, I use evidence-based methods from person-centred therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, somatic approaches, and other modalities—whatever works best for you. In our first session, we'll discuss which approaches resonate with you, ensuring your therapy feels collaborative and tailored to your specific situation.

How much does a session cost?

Individual Counselling: £50 per 50-minute session (£35 for students with valid ID)

Couples Counselling: £70 per 60-minute session (£35 per person)

Your first session is a free consultation where we discuss your needs, goals, and ensure we're a good fit. There's no pressure to commit—this is your chance to ask questions and determine if therapy with me is right for you.

What formats are available?

I offer flexible session options to fit your life: In-person at the USW Start Up Studio in Newport, Video sessions for secure, private therapy from home, or Phone sessions if you prefer audio-only. All sessions are available Wednesday–Friday. You can choose your preferred format and switch between methods as your needs change—flexibility is key.

How do I book a session?

Booking is simple: visit our contact page and fill out the form with your details, availability, and a brief note about what brings you to therapy. I'll get back to you within 24 hours to arrange your free consultation. You can also email or call if you prefer to discuss things before booking.

Is my privacy protected?

Absolutely. Everything you share is confidential and protected by BACP ethical standards and UK GDPR regulations. Your data is securely stored with limited access, and all communications are encrypted. The only exceptions to confidentiality—discussed openly in your first session—are if there's a serious risk of harm to you or others. Your privacy and security are fundamental to safe, effective therapy.

What should I expect in my first session?

Your first session is a free consultation—no pressure, just conversation. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals, and what you hope to achieve. I'll explain how therapy works, answer your questions, share details about confidentiality and boundaries, and we'll explore whether we feel like a good fit to work together. This is your space to get to know me and decide if you'd like to continue.

Can couples book sessions?

Yes! I offer dedicated couples counselling for partners, married couples, and long-term relationships. Couples sessions are 60 minutes (£70 for both) and focus on improving communication, managing conflict, rebuilding connection, and strengthening your relationship. Whether you're facing challenges or wanting to deepen your bond, couples therapy provides a neutral, safe space for both of you to be heard and supported.

What if I need crisis support?

If you're in a mental health crisis or having thoughts of self-harm, please reach out to emergency services immediately by calling 911 or your local emergency number. Talk Haven Therapy supports wellbeing and personal growth, but isn't a crisis service. I can provide resources for crisis support and help you access appropriate immediate help. Your safety is always the priority.

How do sessions work after the first one?

After your free consultation, we'll establish a regular session rhythm that works for you—whether that's weekly, fortnightly, or monthly. Sessions are typically 50 minutes (individual) or 60 minutes (couples). At the start of each session, we'll check in on what you want to focus on, and we'll review progress regularly to ensure therapy is serving your goals and supporting your wellbeing. You're always in control of the pace and frequency.

What if therapy doesn't feel like a good fit?

The therapeutic relationship is crucial, and it's okay if we don't feel like the right match. You can stop therapy at any time, and we can discuss this openly. If you'd prefer to work with a different therapist, I'm happy to help you find someone else who might be a better fit for your needs. Your wellbeing and comfort come first—there's no judgment, just care.

Is Talk Haven Therapy right for me?

Talk Haven Therapy is for anyone seeking support with anxiety, stress, life transitions, relationship issues, personal growth, or emotional wellbeing. Whether you've never been to therapy or you've worked with therapists before, I'm here to help you feel heard, understood, and supported. The best way to know if we're a good fit is to book a free consultation—no commitment, just a conversation about your needs and how I can support you.
